Ukraine

Aug 2007 – Trip began in Budapest from where we took the train towards the Ukrainien border. Then we continued with a healthy mix of train and bike to Lviv – a beautiful old town in the west of Ukraine. A day on scooters in the mountains was a good break from pedalling and we saw a much overrated ukrainien ski resort. On returning to Lviv we swapped the scooters for a time efficient night train to Odessa where we had a cruise along the black sea coast before a full night of partying. The next day we crossed into Transnistria and Moldova. This is possibly the only country i have ever visited from which i could not mention any positive element. Even the weather was cruel. A night in Chisinau only confirmed this. Crossing into Romania, i thought things would improve, but this eastern part of Romania was very different to the Carpathians where i have previously been. It was also an unpleasant mix of dirt and gypsies. Was good to arrive the following day at Otopeni and catch my flight back home. A great trip though through some really interesting places. Travelling must not always be easy and beautiful……
